Awaiting The Presidential Doxology

by Dan Kasten

Craving your lexicon, we are
you deciphering generic tongue
listening for specifics

seeking the better life, we are
you unable to get past a personal campaign pledge
of binge behavior and ambiguity of choice

watching the actions you choose, we are
you lamenting your need for validation from others

documenting a history of decision-making, we are
you framed in a city of candles
with so much farther to go

amen.

Author's Note: The last of three poems portraying the presidential campaigns that happened in Ohio.

Everyone's right and no one is sorry
That's the start and the end of this story
From the sharks and the jets
To the call in the morning
And life is just bets anyway –
