Even Alphas Get Fired by Jeffrey ParrenHe was the guy
who picked battles
frequently
and usually
without regard to whom.
The main concern of his
was right and wrong
especially when he thought
he was right
and you were wrong.
He had been there
on and off
for the better part
of 5 years,
maybe more.
He was off again
for two months
doing a play
or musical;
his passions.
When I saw him today
I said, "Hi, great
to see you!"
though
I really didn't mean it.
His usually gleeful retort
was quite subdued
and quickly I learned
his greetings today
were combined with goodbyes.
He picked a battle
finally
that he couldn't win
with one person
who was part of management
and she was unwilling
to come to a compromise
or even speak about it
so as she was more valuable
he was out the door
and finally
his blind need
to be right
lead to his own
demise. 11/21/2008 Posted on 11/21/2008 Copyright © 2025 Jeffrey Parren

| Posted by George Hoerner on 11/21/08 at 06:06 PM Nice write and isn't this the truth. Sometimes we just don't know when to quit. I am fortunate in that I rarely get angry enough in an argument to continue when there is no chance to win. |
