The Piercing Loneliness of Room 301 by Eric Hinklethe piercing loneliness
glowingly dashes out
from under the bare bones door.
two dull, saddened eyes
stare out from sunken sockets
in the face of a woman
who dejectedly stares in the face
of the ever-present loneliness
with whom she shares
her apartment.
the uninviting atmosphere
of her self-imposed infirmary
reeks of stale tragedy
and the penetrating hopelessness
of that purgatory's two occupants.
she stares at the casual passersby,
people with dead-end jobs
and torturous relationships,
people with dark, hidden pasts,
but mostly, people simply with people.
she wishes blandly with the gaping
canyons in the depths of her soul
that she could be one of them.
any of them.
