07. Caffeine is necessary, you are not!

by Arianna Woods

You. Are boring.
You drink your obligatory cup of coffee every morning
Eat your breakfast
Go to work, or school, or wherever it is
That you go after you eat breakfast
You lead a normal, scheduled life.

But you, like your obligatory cup of coffee
Are decaf.
You are not special.
You do not raise my energy level or keep me awake.
You do not increase my heart rate.
You are not the little cup of half-and-half
I enjoy so much.

Your hair, and your eyes, like your coffee
Are black.
It isn't the pretty black I wear as eyeliner
Or an unexplainable celestial void
You are not a black hole.
You do not draw me in.
No, it can best be described as
The black of a pot hole on Route 33.

You are comparable to the ink stain on my jeans
Annoying, and ingrained.
Also black, also caffeine-free.
And I.
Do not.
Drink decaf.

Chilling, in so many ways.
