open-heart surgery

by Sophia Grace

when i said that i loved you, i meant;

that i wanted you to crack my chest open,
shatter my ribs and pin flesh to the side.
reach in and take this heart, the blood's
begun to run cold and sluggish, and discard
it. drop it in the bin marked 'hazardous
waste' and i will watch the atrial flutter
slow as it tumbles down. it's alright, love.

i won't need it where we're going.

Tough stuff for one who had a quad bypass a few years back. But very enjoyable and yes there are times when I think about the heart going somewhere else beside back inside.

Wow. I don't know whether where you're going is good or not...??!!! It certainly is evocative, either way!

beautiful & heavy. reminds me of a stars song. I bet you love them.

In loving we open ourselves up for pain but you took this in a very vivid and evocative direction. Wow. smh.

You don't waste any imagery, that's for sure. Stark, vicious and very fun to read.

WOW! Now that is what one calls "falling in love lock, stock, and barrel"! Extreme analogy in its graphic description!

Wow! This made me think of "Alice in Wonderland" AND of a love song, all at once. Definitely a modern classic to be.
