Keep Up The Pretense

by Alison McKenzie

Eating my Trader Joe’s maple yogurt
Mixed with my favorite chunky granola,
This is my new indulgence.

I’ve taken off the beads,
Too difficult to live that lie anymore.
I’ve put away the altar,
Tucked away the books for the moment,
And I wonder if there will be any wedding.

The duality of ideal vs. reality
Is too wide,
Like the span of years between,
I can’t make the spread anymore,
And it exhausts me to bear the weight
Of holding the space for that pretense.

I will keep the vegetarian way of life,
Finding its vibratory rate
Quite compatible.
But how much more of it is rubbish
Remains to be seen.

I'm often rather afraid of finding out I'm a huge fraud as well. Heh. Awesome work.

Hang in there! Let's hope we all can find something that works for us. MFS
