It Being a Given by Ken HarnischIt being a given that you own me
In ways no one has, and no one will
And none of life’s vicissitudes
Has ever diminished your starlight;
Not through trials and tribulations;
Not through domestic strife in
Places far away, and well removed
From both our knowing;
Not through the passages of two
Divergent lives, which, while far
Apart, still maintain that proximity
Of hearts and souls that knows no
Boundaries we can yet define…
All that being given, at least to me,
I will throw my chances to the wind
And allow myself the indulgence
Of admitting I am captive
And try to carry on the best I can
Hoping you are as beautiful a jailer
As you’ve always been a dream.
