Deaf Needs by Jeffrey ParrenPeople hear
what they want to hear
and people want
what they're going to want.
If you tell someone
they way to the bathroom
is up the stairs
and left of the bar
if he/she thinks
those stairs are somewhere
near the broiler
in the kitchen
well, that's the way
they're going to go,
no matter how demonstrative
I can inform them.
If you tell another
that to cook the steak
just a "little more"
on the "sizzling hot plate"
is to be done by taking
the newly exposed sides
of the steak to the plate
to cook by adding pressure
if he/she thinks
back to the fire is needed
even for that little bit
I know the plate will achieve,
there is no breaking
that train of thought
so obey you must
their deaf needs.
