Domani

by Maria Massarella

Gina leaned her cheek
within reach of his lips
Intimate the sussurations
winged in lovingness

Giovanni bejewelled her
with a kiss

softsolicited: domani
vai in banca e paghi

tomorrow go to the bank
and pay - non piangere
dont cry ...

when you return home – pre
tend - tell yourself it is as if
robbers have been to visit

quando torni a casa - fai finta
- di a te stessa che è come
essere visitata dai ladri

Resigned his tongue to
quiet

Crucified to his hospital bed
he seeks to justify the injust
they have been served – His
health demands priority now

as hemhorrages advance in
uncharted floods – Shadows
placed in hands of light
Together they dream of his
return

Home.

Mixing languages gives this poignant poem an empathetic feel. Tenderness and love speak in every language.
