Two Girls in a Bathroom

by Kerowyn Rose

I study the tiny rivulets of color
that make up the highlights in her hair
and notice the way she touches up
her mascara; eyebrows lifted,
eyes squinted; and find myself
a tiny bit jealous of my dear friend’s
passion for lipsticks and curling irons
her sexy style and choice of clothes

it’s my deficiency in this area
that draws me to her
for once I had these inclinations
but now they are gone
she fluffs her hair with those long
nails, turns away from the mirror
and says, “I’m going to do your makeup.”
