Absent Minded

by Elizabeth Hoadley

i can't remember
where i put it

somewhere
in the vicinity
of lost
socks
words
and lottery tickets

i miss it
wherever
it has gone
to that haven
beyond
my imagination

i miss its
laugh
smile
and thousands of miles
of priceless memories

the soft and
gentle gaze
it blaze
unto me, burned
into scenery

alas,
not all
the my's
and me's
in the world
can find it
safe among
the
wants and
the
wishes
that
weld
the berth
where it is hid

i will find
that wharf
once i stop
missing
and live
