In the Tropics

by Joe Cramer

All my life I've been sidelined,

Waiting for something to happen.

My eyes, never really opened wide,

Instead, inspired by hopelessness.

This burden great, always rests

So squarely on my narrow shoulders,

Absolute in the imagined oppression.

Author's Note: ... I had been reading Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer".....

I first thought of the "Matrix" though I am sure not the best comparison. What our minds create for us for whatever reason is sometimes baffling and stiffling and either way the end result is not what we were expecting. ~JPP
