Join the Ranks

by Jeffrey Parren

I wonder to myself,
What would the world be like
if everyone worked
at their careers
by choice
not by need
doing what they cherished
instead of
what they had to?

What if everyone
just quit their 'jobs'
and sought out dreams
of youthful endeavors
or of adult clarity?

What if millions
upon millions
of intelligent
and hard-working people
just decided
to up and quit monotony
and join the ranks
of those happy
and that getting by
becomes somewhat easier...
that the bed
never felt so soft?

I wonder to myself,
though the precedent
has been set many times before,
could I really
do what makes my heart
and mind both happy
and at ease?

Couldn't we all?

Keys...it would be good, eh?
