wearing your name

by Charlie Morgan

name, name...the most-most of all titles;
all others coming after, only modifiers.

little tells the tale of a name, memories
trail behind like a Sierran Norther follows
it's shortest line to the next ridge's butte.

straight to the heart of mankind; an arrow,
nay, a poet's pen, feather quill and all.
dripping words of hurt, love; she has a name.

a title is a mortor board of accomplishments;
a hanging tree of long ago deeds done; forgotten.
but the name evokes, feelings of guilt of innocence.

would your mama say that you wore your name well?
would your dog wag his tail on afternoon's greeting?

that will be the measure of the human inside you.

I've almost always loved my name, except for, in school when I'd get teased with "Alice in Wonderland". I'd want to scream, "my name's NOT 'Alice' you morons..." LOL. Love this, Charlie!

Just like Ali, I had all the alice in wonderland usuals because you know, e v e r ywhere you go, they always call you by your first name, regardless. And all the page2? page3? In your textbook ,turn to page so and so...and for the rest of that hour or day, that would be my number. I dunno if my mom would say I wore it well, but dammit I wore it anyways, everyday... Cute as can be sweet thang.
