she dances so pretty

by Maria Francesca

she dances so pretty
so lovely, her steps
as she swirls 'cross the stage
like the skin of a bubble
so frothy
so lively
so filled with elan
so far from the world
and its cumbersome troubles.

she dances so surely
so certain, she glides
so precise yet so freely
she circles the floor:
pas de chat
and jete
and a quick ballonee
she's the goddess of beauty -
we watch and adore.

it's over so quickly
the curtain comes down;
we throw blossoms and cheer her
for all that we're worth;
she smiles 'til she's certain
that no one is watching
then, aching and drained,
she limps back down to earth.

A story here convincingly and dramatically told.
