How Leticia Travels

How Leticia Travels

Letty of the Lake Court,
6 en Candelaria
whispers to the waterspout
on Echo Park Lake
sings to the moon
tangled
in the eucalyptus...
tells them all the secrets
hidden in the corners,
paint flakes and pennies
dusty on her tongue...

And she dreams all the colors
of a number sixty-four
box of crayolas
from the Sunset Woolworth's
(Going Out of Business...
Going Out of Business...
Going
Out of
Business...
¡EVERYTHING MUST GO!)

She
sleeps past the aftershocks
rock
rock
rocking...
rocking with the waves on the teal blue lake
black braids trailing
in the wake of the moonlight
burnt sienna princess in a sea green boat...

Helicopter lasers
piercing the courtyard
dream into spacecraft
beam her aboard,
while the thunder of the blades
cranks
leviathan turbines
interstellar engines
into over drive...
she will drift
drift
drift
in zero gravity
Earth through a porthole
smaller and smaller
slowly deflating
that beautiful ball...

The brothers
The sisters
that clutter her waking
(laundry to carry,
dishes to dry)
curl each one around
their unsharable dreamfood...

The breeze off the lake
awakens the windchimes
Woolworth lace curtains
breathe in the night
