"This Charlie Brown Suit Ain't a Halloween Costume" by Max PhineasThis is, this is
the Bad Luck Shuffle.
Face to the wind I run
Ignoring history and trusting the world
feet a blur
race toward that gleaming pigskin.
So close, too
Pace is perfect
gait is square
But just as I take
A long swipe at air
Destiny yanks away that ball
and I'm flat on my back once more.
Gazing at the sky for an answer
The sun snickers and says
"Maybe next time." 10/23/2008 Author's Note: A semi-comical, fully autobiographical, completely "borrowed" plot.
