"Don't It Always Seem to Go..."

by Max Phineas

I've been sitting at a glowing light
trying to connect with a past
that I'd only wished I had

All the smiling people passed by
and I smiled right along
brushing off what I never knew I'd miss.

The light draws me in to a brighter future
But I'm still floating, smiling dumbly
Feet not quite planted
Almost running in place,

or on dead end roundabouts.
Turn around, wave goodbye
Won't miss you til you're years away.

It's amazing, just how much we can be compelled by possibility, especially after it's passed us. Well done.
