I left You

by Jessica A Steenbock

we sat and talked
knowing you had to wake up early
we sat and laughed
you laying on the couch
comfortable with our touch

it was 2 am when i left you
knowing that i didn't really want to
but knowing that i had to
so comfortable in your hug
with my head at your chest

but it was 2 am when i left you
knowing that i needed to
not because of work
not because of the dog
but because i had to

i can't do this again
with you
i want to stay with you
i want to lay with you on that couch
laughing and talking and admitting
with all truth who i am

but i still left you at 2 am

I love that. The last line is so simple, but I can still gather a very nicely done, striking image from it. Well done.

Don't you just hate the small hours?
