Like a pack
of hungry
wild
dogs

the
"I-want-to-pay"-ers
fight
with a
"feast or famine" attitude

upon that moment

the check.

If I waste
but one second
holding that check

instead of placing it
upon the table
my arm is fair game
as well as

the
rest
of
me.

With their barrage
of
"you better not
let him pay!"
and
"oh, come on!
I got this!
Give it to me, Jeff!"

I can't help
but want to give "it"

maybe a piece of my mind
or perhaps
we can play
"Eeny, meeny, miny, moe"
since the feeling
of this situation
reminds me
of adolescent squabble

so sometimes
I escape unscathed
and with a good tip

other times
I am torn to shreds
and left wondering why.
