In a Rush

by Jeffrey Parren

If I wake late
I scurry about
showering and such
throwing on clothes
and rushing out
most assuredly
without doing
those things
that start my day
the way I like.

If I wake early
I meander about
starting the day
the way I like
snuggle?
feeding the cats?
feeding myself?
read?
write?
play a game?

And in doing
all those things
inevitably
I lose track
(my enemy is time)
and yet again
I find myself
racing to a place
I don't care to go
I don't care to be

And in doing
all those things
unwanted
I find humor
(man's greatest invention)
doing what I despise
for reasons I deplore
racing against a current
instead of with one
living in satisfaction.

Author's Note: In a random aside...I realize there aren't many antonyms for "rush." A coincidence? I think not.

All of us seem to be caught up in the "rush"... no time to smell the roses! I think we all need to slow down and BREATHE!!! MFS
