to explain...

by Katie Dean

the pit of my stomach has turned into
cherry blossoms and the slow
tide has turned
to waves which throw me back to shore

you did this to me
the blankets tucked in beside me
you leave early, later
you tell me i smile when i'm sleeping and i
tell you that i know why
i would tell you all of it

before i leave, i trace my handprint on the wall
the pit of my stomach morphs back
...

the missing is part of it
the indent of my hand on your stomach
tracing your tattoos with my index finger
my body goes numb when i drive away
but that is not all of it

Apparently not. Wonderful language, and some really powerful imagery. I especially love that last stanza.
