mm/dd/yyyy by Dani Rosei know dates now,
ask me--
the 25th,the 2nd,
its october now.
the days are cooler,
air is cleaner.
if dared to feel,
i would feel
the draining absence
of minutes, as
they dwindle
with reckless abandon.
i know them
intimately now,
though they regard me
as being
of no consequence--
i covet them as
lovers would
the breaking light
of dawn,
signifying a night
of well-spent
exertion.
i know dates now.
monotonous thing,
keeping time
like it may be
lost forever
if i don't.

Posted by George Hoerner on 10/15/08 at 11:59 PM Ah yes, 'time'. It is the subject for those of us that have little left and that was true when we were younger but we never knew it. Nice write and keep thinking about 'time'. 60 seconds lost is a minute out of your life. It adds up quicker than you think. |
Posted by David Hill on 10/16/08 at 02:11 AM We try to live in the moment, but can't keep from counting the loss. Nice piece. The tone in the last stanza is exceptional |

Posted by Alison McKenzie on 10/27/08 at 02:50 AM I suppose if time is finite, and in terms of the number of breaths we have in this one body, it is...dates (the coming and going of them) are definitely relevant. Personally, I loathe having to keep track of time :-) |
