The Delicate Balance

by Jeffrey Parren

The delicate balance
between my
and your time
is ever-so realized

when I approach
a new table and
in trying to get
some kind of response

whether it be food
or drink or
a simple hello
you turn slightly

seemingly talking
to yourself and not
your company
in selfish connectivity

and see the cell phone
attached to your ear
because life is so busy
or you want to look important

the easiest decision
is to walk away, for
tending to your needs
while you're tending your own

is something I won't do.
So when you are through with you
I can continue the process
of fulfilling your every need.

Waiting tables never a dull moment! I've been there! MFS
