homecoming

by Rhyana Fisher

two years now
as near perfect as a day gets
it's the shiniest moment in my life still
the way the smile split my face -
unforgettable. i never used to
you changed that

odd there were no doubts
no last minute wedding jitters
it was simply time. finally the right time
in a lifetime of wrong ones

differences of opinion
unresolved issues
excess baggage weighing us down
it never goes away. marriage
doesn't work that way
but we came home

sometimes all we need
is a good sized closet
until we trust it's safe to unpack

Author's Note: two year wedding anniversary 10/7. more than five years together total come november. it's still the most right thing i've ever done, issues regardless.
