stains.

by Emily G Myers

my head is full of you all day;
no thought can outdo you.

honey,
you are the coffee stains in my books;
the blues greens grays of my eyes.

& you must be so lonely up there in my mind,
but I'm sorry, my love, I can send you no company.
I try to send numbers and words and strangers
past lovers or enemies,
but nothing nothing nothing
stays like you.
all else slides cleanly through
without touching or washing you out.

but honey,
you are the grass stains on the knees of my jeans;
that chicken pox scar under my eye.

you are here for good
cause all day
my head is full of nothing but you.

I love that second to last stanza most of all. Such a great combination of voice and image. Well done.

Emily, this is addicting verse. I think it is wonderful. Lines like, "I try to send numbers and words and strangers past lovers or enemies, but nothing, nothing, nothing stays like you." It's all there...speaking its mind, so very clearly. Thanks.
