Making Love On A Late October Night

by Richard Davis

As the faint flicker of light
from the votive candle
on the nightstand gleams
off the wineglass
you rise to take me in,
your body the welcoming
warmth of the October sun.

Our bodies meet
in a timeless moment
of ecstasy.

Afterward you gently rest
your head on my chest
as I let you drift off
to your dreams while
I listen closely to the soft
music of your breath
holding you tighter
as I think of
the winter to come.
