free variables

by Cassandra Leigh

here we are, 3AM, between worlds
prime, far from eve(n)
parallel and convergent
curios in a wide, wide domain

the calculus of rapport:
sha(tte)red between u and i,
the free variables,
the indeterminate forms, the
intuitive limits of
suspension of belief,
carried into conjunction on the
shoulders of no one

if, then,
therefore
we could shoot the moon
or run (i could follow) until we hit 10^42
a trajectory continuous,
infinite
in our own vspace

i write proofs like this-- why
i can't sleep like you can.

here i am, before midnight
(after, now, you've been on my mind so long)
a hundred yards,
a hundred miles away
thinking about dreams and
horizontal asymptotes and
rules for differentiation,
arbitrary

and you, desideratum
cut me and i bleed ether
and it makes me feel alive enough to
cancel my audacity
divide by zero
and take chances
