Chicago 60609

by Joe Cramer

So I don't know much about Chicago,

The little that I do actually know

Are some names, rather arcane,

"The Windy City" and "Chi-town."

I do know it's straight up I-55

Man, that's some kind of a drive

From my beloved Southern hometown,

And it's on some great big lake

If I'm not mistake-en

Is it Huron, or Superior or perhaps Michigan?

All I really know is that it's cccccold

In the winter, so very cooooold in the winter,

Hot in the Summer,

What a bummer.

Nice in Spring and Fall, y'all.

Don't they paint that river green?

But no Mardi Gras to make you scream!

I was in Chicago once,

In the middle of winter,

And like some jester, a proverbial dunce,

The thermometer read 10 degrees,

"Boy, that's cold!" I exclaimed, "I'll freeze!"

Until a friend said it's 10 below.

I knew right away that I had to go

Running away from sweet home Chicago.

My favorite band is named Chicago,

Hey, isn't that where the Speigel

Catalogs all come and go?

Chicago, 60609.

Author's Note: ... I remember as a little kid, the television game shows always stated that their prizes came from Speigel, Chicago, 60609... I thought that was the entire name of the city.... you made me think of this L!

Ha! So funny...it is really nice most of the time... it's not so cold! I think they still have a Speigel store here too.

Hi Joe. Me, too. I can hear can hear the Price Is Right announcer..."Speigel, Chicago, 60609." Enjoyed this, thanks.
