I Am All By Myself by Genevieve Sturrock(written by my 6 year old son in school today)
I see the king of birds, the bald eagle.
The trees look like green circles.
The clouds are fluffy white.
I need my jacket so I won't get chilly from the breeze.
The clouds feel nice and soft.
But I am scared up in the sky.
I hear the eagle calling.
I cannot hear people talking.
I hear the wind blowing.
I feel sad and lonely.
I do not want to fly. 09/23/2008 Author's Note: i home school my little man and there are times when he just takes my breath away. we read a poem about a boy flying and my son really didn't like it. our assignment was to write a poem about what we imagine flying would be like. he was very reluctant to discuss what he imagined flying would be like and finally burst into tears and said it made him sad because he would be all alone. kid stories are all about the positive side of life and he just couldn't be happy about the prospect of flying. i thought he did a great job getting that point across here.

| Posted by Alison McKenzie on 09/23/08 at 10:28 PM Man, if I was home-schooling a 6 year old who penned this, I would make it a yearly "assignment" just to see how his thinking on it progresses. Just AMAZING!!!!! |
