...this isn't goodbye... by Olivia Weinkeinthis isn't goodbye
because i'm not ready
to leave but by this time
tomorrow i will have forgotten
that look on your face right there,
the fumbling of your hands.
and you don't understand
and i don't expect you to & i'd
like to say that it isn't about you
but it is; it's about you me him
them, it's about the night & the day
and the way they keep turning into
eachother. it's about the shadows we
keep, the lies that we sell, the shame
that we hide, the guilt that we tell
it's about my inability to stay anywhere
with anyone for too long.
& i've had a good time,
i want you to know that.
keep it, put it in your pocket, it's all i can leave
you with. it's the only truth i can stand to
part with. because i am in search for answers
and i'm sorry but
you just don't have them.
i wish our lives made more sense, but darling
this isn't a movie. & the good guy, the right guy,
the waiting guy, does not always win in the end.
so take your heart and be careful now
i'm wreckless and i'm moving on & unless you
want to be caught in the crossfires of this
kamakazi mission, sit tight and don't follow me.
you can't go where i'm going
you were never invited.

Posted by Nanette Bellman on 09/20/08 at 03:48 AM Olivia, there are SOO many beautiful pictures in this poem. I often feel like the kamakazi pilot. Great read. |
Posted by Elizabeth Seago on 09/20/08 at 04:51 AM i've added this to my favorites. this is exactly where I am now. i hear you loud and clear. your writing style is so similar to mine. but you've got a completely incredible ebb and flow that I just can't match. fantastic write! bukowski would be proud. :) |
