My Wish for You

by Alison McKenzie

My wish for you is
Peace beyond the murky waters of
Life for you in these many years
Beyond your mother’s abandonment;
Beyond your mate’s assumed infidelities;
Beyond your father’s absence while you swung away;
Your brother’s spot as favorite.

My wish for you is
That sense beyond yourself,
When you know that you are loved
For your precious presence,
Not your IQ or your salesman wit,
Your sixth sense or
The magic pouring from your soul.

My wish for you is
Knowing your purpose without the strife
Of parading your needy ego,
Beyond the desire to be stroked
By all that is outside you,
Confident in your path
While you walk it, as we all do,
Ultimately alone.

My wish for you is
The ability to reach beyond yourself
To help another for no good reason,
To understand the treasures your children bring,
You, the guardian of their guidance
Through this maze we must call “humanity”.

My wish for you, Sweet Love,
Is to know, for once,
That the beauty in my face,
In all creation,
Is that which is reflected from within you,
Shining back from the mirror we all are.
