elegy, retrospect

by Arthur Parten

our sweat cooled in the dark
open secret, laughing eyes
and you murmured words for me

we danced bare and content
soft rasped pledge, bitten lips
purloined tryst among the others

i brushed the sand away
and cold sweet river water
and this too passed.

You catch the very temporary euphoria of making love very effectively without being explicit!
