get over yourself

by Vere Mantratriad

There was a great city once
with stone walls to the heavens
and a castle in its skyline

Two thrones, one always empty
balanced on crumbling pedestals
with stairways impassable

A lifetime of no and goodbye
shook the foundation
until all was cracked and sheared

And shut eyes, mouth and heart
made stone give way to ash
and still waters to blaze

I thought its strength was
unrelenting passionate fury

And I thought its weakness
was to love too much unreturned

But

Jealousy is not love
self-pity is not love
and heat turns cold
when not allowed
breath

Author's Note:
"get over yourself"
and that I did
though it may still
be a crime that I
still can't
get over you

goodbye is not within my vocabulary
but I can not lay blame
if hello is no longer a part of yours

Note within a note: I don't expect a reply to this. That is not its purpose here. I just needed to express this. That is all.
