Drowning by Richard VinceThe rain always makes me
Think of her, because of
The way it brings new life
To the world, and because of
The part it has played in
So many beautiful moments.
I feel guilty for hiding from
The rain when I am alone,
But it's not the same when
It isn't tousling her hair
Or mingling with our lips
As we share a kiss.
So I take the coward's way
Out and lurk indoors, facing
The saturated world, and allow
Myself to be washed away in
Thoughts of her.
This is the most beautiful
Drowning: feeling her fill
My lungs and my heart and
My soul and knowing I need
Never come up for air.
When the Sun returns, I will
Step out into a world
That looks brand new,
Just as she has made it
For me. She has opened
My eyes to beauty I never
Thought I would see.

Posted by Amy Niggel on 09/09/08 at 03:23 PM Beautiful poem to be reading on a rainy New England day. I hope for my part that I have inspired such feelings in someone at some point. Great job. |
