Ascension Before Transcendence

by Ryan Nardi

I want to be like Oscar Wilde.
I want to crack a joke
as I part from this longest of jokes.

I want to not be afraid--
or to be brave enough to laugh
in death's face.

I want to stand a long while
before I lie down forever,
let myself work up the need.

A fascinating look at facing one's mortality. How does one go about facing death as a "joke"? My experiences of facing death were not at all humorous! Not being with those close to me who were! (As a devoted Christian, there is no fear of death, but may be of the dying process.) Well, you have me thinking! LOL!!

Having epilepsy can help you with that. Not being able to depend on consciousness itself, ever, has made me yearn for death so much that wanting to live is now the daily battle. I had a dear friend who was also an epileptic but she lost her battle and suicided a few months ago. I hope you reach your goal.
