small places in the world.

by Meghan Helmich

i have never been to a mountain city,
carved into the clay and rock,
perched over big blue carpeted waves.

it must be a lesson in acrophobia -
the grecian summit piled on piles
of little windows with gauze flaps.

and in each, a small face, framed
in thick black curls. wives, mothers.
children becoming at slow paces.

warm hands pulling roped vessels in,
buoys where footsteps have paced
to prepare for storms and sun.

always an airy wedding at the top.
circled with decorated eyes and posts,
mandolin laughter of big families.

a strangely familiar place in spite of
shifting earth and broken ground.
city of buried clay pots and might.

There is a beauty in this your poem that goes beyond what is the photograph, for you take the reader with you to enter inside the picture to envision-imagine the life you have penned to being. I breathe and feel myself be a part of it. I adore it! The feeling and the poem. In my book this is a perfect photopoetography experience. Lovelight&peace ... m.a

this is nice, there is a lovely, fluid elasticity to the lines, and you've envisioned the place so poetically, it brings it across not simply visually but tangibly/"sensefully".
