If I Was a Poet

by Jeffrey Parren

If I was a poet
my picture would be in black and white
letting the viewer decide coloring
so when they became the reader
they would already be set up
for ongoing change that, too,
my poetry endures, being
the reflection on my life it is.

The reader could decipher
my written code and decide
for themselves if they enjoy
or loathe my scope on existence,
but I suppose that is fine,
as long as they are reading
and formulating their own mind's eye
then I can still call myself a poet.

...jeffery, if we all were poets, eh?...love the perspective of "everyman" here, Thoreau's life of quiet desperation...hug those things that you hate to do, destroy your enemies--make them your friend! what you tell the public in sixteen lines is pretty-much a summation of writing...that is we write about what's in us...

You are a poet. we are ALL poets. We just have our own unique way of committing pen to paper. Keep writing. Good job!
