For You

by Tony Whitaker

I sit here by your side
as we gaze into the tide
and then the sun
peaks
from beneath the sea
with your last breath
which sets you free

Our storied journey has been long
and our love became so strong
now the cancer takes me home
as I see you now
waiting with your smile
to take me to the tide

Author's Note: This was inspired by my beautiful and funny aunt, Myra Jean, who passed away several years ago. It is dedicated to two former wonderful work mates who are fighting the hard fight.. God Bless you both.
