We the //people// Corporations

by Brian Francis

         We the people  Corporations

Rising out of the marrow of the times
Fires burn indescribably hot
Chattel weave and sway bearing the burden
The burden of so many great corporations
The monetary needs are enormous and require
The sacrifice of so many less fortunate souls

The altar, present in the hearts of the wealthy
Receive the offerings of worn destroyed
Individuals who still believe in their freedom
Who’s devotion to supporting the walls of their prison
Ensure the perpetuity of their own suffering
Bread and fuel costs increase to wash away
Any savings gathered in the brief prosperous times
While the workers suffer needs as basic as a full belly
The corporations engorge with the extra profits
The windfall of their pathetic games of dominion

Governments the tools of control and domination
Swagger and preach that unique version of idea
Invisibly contaminated by the tentacles of corporation
Governance being the highest form of perceived freedom
No stronger than the bands of selfish personal interests
Swirling agendas clouded by deception colored by greed
bleed out into the communal mind as magnificent
social works intended to better the life of the people

Great highways to nowhere offer the citizenry
Poignant moments of reflection on the purposes intended
By such un-magnificent public works
Workers earned paychecks allowing their families to eat
While companies earn millions filling their coffers
With the sweet rewards of democracies twisted intentions

Corporations are made of individuals. There is where the greed comes in. Has to be controlled! That has to be from an inner change of the individual. Don't know how many are really hungry in this country (unless willfully). Think of what it would be like without the corporations! Think of much of the world where there is real hunger because of the greed of the ruling class (not corporations). You've written a strongly worded poem concerning corporate greed. Ironically those corporations now with hands out for a bailout because of their excesses and poor management. And in some cases pressure from government to be too aggressive in lending money!
