my lovely second-daughters by Charlie Morganbusy Mexicans in my house, Maria and Jorge;
team-clean and wipe the grim of white away
and letting the dust roam up and about.
only to settle again, a different place.
an aroma of grins from Elizabeth & Jessica
as they hop out of the school togs, adopt
bathing suits for one last summer swim;
my pool, my home the vestige of summer fun.
and to be included is my monument to pride.
'carlos, toss me, toss me!' Elizabeth yells.
Jessica, shines 'yo mi tambien, me too,
Mr. Charlie!' and i rise like a serpent
and toss Jessica high in the same air as Sis.
laughter echos its roots throughout my yard
and ricochets off my six foot red wood fence;
keeping their happiness in, evil: outside,
as mom and dad clean the house of two-weeks
human activity, life, living, dream-chasing.

| Posted by Alison McKenzie on 09/01/08 at 06:51 PM This is a great summer's end, Charlie. I actually bought a new bathing suit this year, and never did wear it....lol. |
| Posted by Keith McFarlane on 09/02/08 at 08:09 AM Fantastic chaz -- I love these little juxtapositions. Great word, 'adopt.' -- draws in the 'global village' notion for me. I love the phrase "wipe the grim of white away" -- this is one of those turns you can taste, the impression we must leave with "the help" -- I, btw, use the services of Brazilian cleaners & lawn folks, all hit hard by gas prices these days -- I pay the extra of late, don't know how much longer... |
