seconds stack-up by Charlie Morganone day in the life of a scream
a second smacked into the next,
before long an entire minute stood.
motionless. after the period;
and held captive with a small dot.
a dot of stoppage, of ceasing: fin.
such power in a period, fluidity
found in commas and semi-colons;
grace under the fire of meanings.
all in charge of the lowly reader
who stands powerless to not stop.
wait. now, move on. now, stop again.
a period is a crossing guard for ideas,
as they pile-up like third graders,
awaiting that mean Mrs. Edwards.
another portion of another life's begun,
exemplifying Spidey, BatMan, The Flash.
no more Buck Rogers, Gene Autry, Roy & Dale;
real people gone, replaced by the nameless
belonging to our saplings we ruin with love.
