The Stranger in the Tavern

by Danny Washington

In the tavern at night, Sol looks out at the moon
And wonders what he should do next.
When a tap on his shoulder brings him back to earth
As he turns to observe the strange presence.

Sol opens his mouth, to blurt out his name
But he finds himself interrupted.
As the stranger announces "I've been here all night!
And I've yet to see a face sadder."

Then Sol takes in a breath to answer the man
But is once again disrupted.
"What is it my boy!? You look young and refreshed
And your exploits are surely light hearted."

Sol has the chance to explain why he's down
And explain, he does in detail.
"Last night my good man, I put steel on my wrist
But recoiled at the very last minute."

"I thought to myself, that there must be some point
And a reason for all the unhappiness.
But now I can see, that I'm destined to be
Stuck here with people like you."

He'd taken the hint, as he sauntered away
And Sol was left to his bitter.
And he sat back and smiled, this was where he belonged
Until his days were over.

Great story and one I'll follow if it continues. Well done.
