Utterly

by Alison McKenzie

Though my form looms larger than most,
I am really only so much on the inside,
My flesh merely a symbolic façade
To make you think
There is something of substance here,
When the truth is,
I cower on the inside
Behind this wall of fat and skin,
Hoping you won’t ever discover
How pitiful I really am.

Author's Note: Trying to get to the bottom of the things inside myself.
