The Value of a Face

by Alison McKenzie

Let’s just take this at face value –
A relationship of convenience,
Arms to shelter one another
Until we’re strong enough to let go
And move on with life
The way it was meant to be.

And I promise not to
Mourn myself into a grave,
If you promise to
Find a good woman
With whom you can have
Lots of babies
Who will fill your house with
Laughter and a future.

The way you wield your words like weapons and never fail to get your point across never ceases to amaze me; this, too, like everything you write, rocks.
