Former selves

by Shirin Swift

In between their former selves
and in between the leaves,
the dancing lovers imitate
the summer and the breeze.

The laughing lovers rise and wash,
think and say goodbye
allow themselves to utter
caress, to fly apart and cry.

In between the lovers
and in between the leaves,
a dancing wind uncovers
the vows lost in the trees.

Worlds hold candles
to their lives and to the coming grave
and will not let them part before
they’ve found their separate ways.

It doesn't sound that sappy to me. But then I'm a romantic at heart or what ever it is that pace maker keeps beating. Very enjoyable.
