epitaph

by Maria Francesca

two hundred fifty years from now
I'll be maybe three lines long;
probably two.

someone will read me
every six months or so
while trudging through
to visit someone
more recently planted.

and while I know
that there are some
who come along
and alter
the very pulse of the world

I'll be perfectly happy
with obscurity
if I can say
that for just one moment

I made you smile.

That's a lovely thought, and it made me smile. Thank you.
