Oh So Young

by George Hoerner

so young we leapt
from breast to bottle
playing soldier then
on to teen foolery
trying to act grownup

riding with friends
learning to smoke
when did you go to dope
so you were invincible

but before that
the first kiss
a peak at her breast
which after a touch
you stuck out your chest
never again missed
the chance to touch

and tell the truth
did you give up
too soon on your youth
by reaching for more
than her breast
running then girl to girl

but soon you grabbed a gun
deer hunting was fun
but now it's men you hunt

you run from pillar to post
looking for the host
but he is on the roof
shooting back

and someone folds another flag
for the next one that won't be back

Such a waste of youth...I don't understand how this war keeps going on and on and on... MFS

Hello George, this one is heartbreaking in its honesty...
