Goodbye

by George Hoerner

as morning lights my day
wondering what'll be along the way
or if i'll play the day away
there's really not much more to say

the sand dial of life has lost it's light
and i scarcely recall desires delight
my cup is running dry
it's nearing time to say goodbye

i'll join the yesteryear
never to think again of tears
but take my place amongst the ashes
no longer taking time to fill the glasses

i leave to join wars iron rust
and watch my soul turn to dust

George, I hope it's a long time away!

Yet the legacy of wisdom left in written words will not turn to dust and your mind will not lose its edge as long as words are read, the poet lives on as long as words are read, and I have no doubt yours will be. smh

There's a practicality to this piece that very much appeals. Nice write, George.

Alas, the time truly does draw nigh for each of us. As you've pointed out so well with you rhyme and reason. While ya still have it ;-)(LOL) --bf
