On the Uphill

by Alison McKenzie

I wait for your breath,
The hint of it penetrating my awareness
Catching my expectations offguard
Startling my reality with your being.

Because I have my mountains to climb,
Every day,
Short of breath on the inclines
And you are relief.

Should I discover our paths running parallel
For a moment or a lifetime,
I want to bask
In your every ray,
Saturated in our mutual affection,
Appreciating every nuance,
Every orgasmic crescendo
Whether we create or experience them accidentally.

Life is short,
And I don’t think our moments are frivolous -
Not in these times.

You make it sound so easy...loving is the both the easiest and the most difficult thing we humans do. How wonderfully you express it here.
